A multimedia performance highlighting the flowering of African American cultural and intellectual life during the 1920s and 1930s.
Harlem Grooves is an informative live commentary, with archival film footage and a live musical performance, which gives details to how artists and intellectuals found new ways to explore the historical experience of black America and contemporary experiences of black life in the urban North, across the cultural spectrum (literature, drama, music, visual art, dance) and also in the realm of social though (sociology, historiography, philosophy). This program connects with Humanities, Diversity, Language Arts, Social Studies, Literature, Visual Arts, Black History, Civil Rights, and Music education.
Fascinating Rhythms! Tap your feet, sing along, and travel to an era when the music of Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, Billy Holiday, Cab Callaway, and "The Duke" filled the streets and airwaves with red-hot rhythms during the height of the Jazz Age.
