Join us for this fascinating program held in honor of Black History Month.
The 1959 Miles Davis album Kind of Blue is the most successful jazz recording of all time. Featuring John Coltrane on saxophone, Miles Davis on trumpet, Bill Evans on piano and Jimmy Cobb on drums, the album achieved 5x platinum status. Davis's turbulent personal life during this electric period included multiple periods of heroin addiction, pimping, a series of unsuccessful marriages and criticism of his work. This program features music from classic Miles Davis recordings such as Birth of the Cool, Porgy and Bess, Sketches of Spain, Kind of Blue and more.
Presenter Rick Feingold programmed the Jazz music series while working as the marketing director at the Center for the Performing Arts at Penn State University. He teaches American History at Bergen Community College.
The program is presented through the generosity of the Brick Friends of the Library.
