Art Exhibit Reception and Author Talk with Katy Tanis

Join children's book author and illustrator Katy Tanis for an art exhibition, author talk, and book signing, along with a coloring craft for younger readers! All ages. Please register.

Katy Tanis, local author and illustrator, presents ‘Love Under The Sea’.  This exhibit features artworks from her new book with the same title. Katy’s books are available for checkout through the Ocean County Library. For more information on her work and books, visit her website daughterearth.com

Katy Tanis is a children's book author, illustrator, and explorer. Her award-winning artwork has been seen on products and in art shows around the world. Katy grew up in Northern NJ, where she spent most of her days exploring imagined jungles with her three siblings. Her father’s hardware store provided endless supplies for her creative pursuits. She now lives and works at the Jersey Shore. She has an M.A. in Biology from Miami University, a B.S. in Computer Science and a B.F.A. in Art from Carnegie Mellon University. Her career began in the fashion industry, traveling around the world to meet artisans and learn about their crafts—woodblock printing in Kyoto, graffiti in Berlin, ceramics in KwaZulu-Natal, Kantha embroidery in Bangalore, and more. All of these experiences help to inform her work.

Katy highlights unusual and lesser-known animals and explores evolution and biogeography concepts in her work. She frequently travels around the globe to immerse herself in new ecosystems, like Madagascar’s spiny forest and Borneo’s tropical forest. She has a soft spot for the weirdos of the animal kingdom and has never met a color she didn’t like.
