Mickey DiCamillo, archivist and historian, discusses how the national government functioned under the Articles of Confederation during the Revolutionary war and the years immediately following.

When the Americans declared independence on July 4th, 1776, they had an immediate need for a new government. The Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia was still a decade away, so how did the new nation govern itself during the war and immediately after?   Mickey DiCamillo, contributor to the recently published book Greater Philadelphia and the Nation, discusses how the national government functioned under the Articles of Confederation during the war and the years immediately following the war. He explains what worked and what didn't with an emphasis on the impact it had on NJ.

Mickey DiCamillo is an archivist, historian, and information specialist. He has worked for the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Hagley Library and Museum. He has published in the Journal of Film and History, the Encyclopedia of Greater Philadelphia, and in 2004 was the Veterans of Foreign Wars New Jersey State Teacher of the Year for Civic Education. He lives in Moorestown, NJ where he has served on the board for the township's historical society. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Plumsted Library.
