New Jersey State Library Talking Book and Braille Center: Supporting Print-Disabled Readers Through the Years
Established in 1967, the New Jersey State Library Talking Book and Braille Center (TBBC) offers its patrons no cost home-delivered services as a regional library of the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled, Library of Congress.
This display showcases the evolution of materials and equipment used by the Talking Book and Braille Centre (TBBC) to support individuals with print disabilities, including those who are blind, visually impaired, or unable to read standard print due to physical, perceptual, or reading disabilities.
From braille volumes to cassette-based talking books and digital audio formats, TBBC has continually adapted to ensure that every reader has access to reading material. On display you will find a selection of historic and contemporary equipment, including playback machines and refreshable Braille displays, each representing a milestone in accessible reading technology.
Together, these items tell the story of a commitment to inclusion: ensuring that a print disability is never a barrier to literacy, learning, and the enjoyment of literature.
