Learn about the history , recovery, and efforts to monitor the Osprey from Conserve Wildlife NJ's Osprey expert, Ben Wurst.
During this talk, Ben will talk about the life history of ospreys, their recovery, and efforts to monitor and manage ospreys over the past two decades with emphasis on engaging the public in reporting nest activity online. He will also discuss current issues with food stress, weather impacts, and reduced productivity at nests in the coastal region.
Ben Wurst has led the New Jersey Osprey Project, which is centered around monitoring and managing the statewide osprey population using volunteers and funding from non-governmental sources. He received a B.S. in Environmental Science with emphasis in Wildlife Conservation from Unity College. Besides ospreys, Ben works on a variety of other coastal wildlife conservation projects, including species like terrapins, peregrine falcons and bald eagles.
