What was it like to be disabled before the era of curb cuts and accessible restrooms? Through an exploration of original artifacts from scholar Nicole Belolan's collection, participants will discuss what it was like to be disabled in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. This session will increase awareness of disability history and disability justice and activism in America today. Program in honor of Diversability Month. Please register.

Nicole Belolan is a consulting public historian and independent scholar based in South Jersey. She regularly conducts workshops about access and inclusion for people with disabilities in public history and humanities settings. Belolan’s scholarship has appeared in venues ranging from Winterthur Portfolio to The Inclusive Historian’s Handbook. She teaches as an adjunct periodically and is on the Board of the Disability History Association.
