Come learn about ReClam the Bay's efforts to work with communities to address flooding and land erosion concerns on the banks of the Barnegat Bay.
Come learn about ReClam the Bay’s efforts to work with communities to address flooding and land erosion concerns on the banks of the Barnegat Bay. ReClam the Bay, a 501c3 non-profit, all-volunteer organization, was created under the auspices of the Barnegat Bay Shellfish Restoration Program and as part of the Barnegat Bay Partnership, and has worked in tandem with several communities to implement grants developed for building living shorelines.
Living shorelines are built using cured shell, live shellfish, and native plants and act as a shorebreak to disperse wave energy, encourage sand and soil acretion instead of erosion, and also provide habitat for young fish, turtles, and crabs. The ReClam the Bay speaker will provide examples of the shoreline building process to show and explain the benefits of more natural options for shore resiliency and restoration.
