American Bandstand originated in 1957 as a five-day-a-week afternoon television show. It featured teenagers dancing to Top 40 records introduced by Dick Clark. Students would dance on the show which all their teachers watched. This program set in Philadelphia between 1957-1963 features original live Bandstand performances of Rock Around the Clock with Bill Haley and the Comets, Mack the Knife by Bobby Darin, Tears on My Pillow by Little Anthony, Charlie Brown by the Coasters, Great Balls of Fire by Jerry Lee Lewis, Rock ‘n Roll is Here to Stay by Danny and the Juniors and more.
Rick Feingold teaches American Business History at Bergen Community College and holds an MBA from Penn State University and a B.A. in History from Rutgers University.
This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Ocean County Library – Toms River.
