Enjoy a live interpretation of the most famous radio drama of all time by Howard Koch, adapted from the classic H. G. Wells novel, set in Grover Mills, NJ. Please register.

First performed in 1938, this radio drama begins as a musical broadcast intermittently interrupted by news flashes about strange explosions on Mars and the landing of a cylindrical spacecraft on Earth. The simulated "news bulletins" of the original broadcast, narrated by Orson Welles, suggested to many listeners of the time that an actual alien invasion was currently in progress and, as a result, there were instances of panicked evacuation throughout the country, especially in New Jersey.

Attendees can expect an array of period-inspired costumes and commercials, Golden Age radio equipment, theatrical lighting, and extensive sound effects.

This program is sponsored in part by a grant from OceanFirst Foundation and sponsored in part by the Ocean County Library Foundation.
