On June 19, 1865. Major General Gordon Granger, declared General Order No.3. This day in history forever known as Juneteenth, a combination of June and 19th. Also called Freedom Day of Emancipation, it is the oldest known celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Learn more about the history of Juneteenth with Dr. Vernon S. Smith of Monmouth University. Dr. Smith is an expert with over 18 years of experience in social justice advocacy and educational counseling. His ongoing research focuses primarily in empowering young black males. Please register.
